Antipodes

Antipodes is a collective of New Zealand, Australian and European jazz musicians, featuring the original compositions of pianist Luke Sweeting, saxophonist Jake Baxendale and guitarist Callum Allardice. The group plays original compositions that emphasise melody, emotive soundscapes, and an open improvisational aesthetic.

Their album “Good Winter” was nominated for the APRA/AMCOS “Best Jazz Album” award in 2018. The album describes a trilateral constellation of sounds, touching on Scandinavian indie pop, tough contemporary New York jazz and languid Antipodean free improvisation.

Past collaborators include Ken Allars, Aidan Lowe, James Heazlewood-Dale, Simon Ferenci, Tim Geldens, Maximilian Alduca and Tom Botting.
